Absa Premiership match report SuperSport United v Polokwane City 23 January 2018

Posted: 23 January 2018 Time: 17:54

Puleng Tlolane scored in second-half stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Polokwane City against SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Rodney Ramagalela should have opened the scoring in the 10th minute after going one-on-one with the goalkeeper but Reyaad Pieterse made himself big to make a crucial stop.

Bernard Molekwa was forced into an early change as striker Rendani Ndou was unable to continue with the match after getting a knock and was replaced by Dominic Chungwa in the 17th minute.

Aubrey Modiba had a chance to grab the lead for Matsatsantsa three minutes later but Polokwane shot-stopper George Chigova made a vital save.

Morgan Gould eventually broke the deadlock for SuperSport in the 31st minute with a header at the far post following an in-swinging cross from Dean Furman, 1-0.

Kingston Nkhatha had a chance to double the lead five minutes before halftime, but Chigova made a great reflex save with his legs to deny the Zimbabwean.

Gould almost got his second goal eight minutes after the break with a free header in the centre of the box but his effort sailed over the bar.

Rise and Shine were looking for openings towards the 65th minute but Matsatsantsa were disciplined defensively to keep the visitors at bay.

Thuso Phala had a chance to extend SuperSport's lead in the 72nd minute after being gifted space just outside the box but he went for power instead of curling his shot and his effort sailed over the bar.

With six minutes remaining, Tinkler introduced young striker Darren Smith for Nkhatha and also brought in Denwin Farmer for Modiba to shore up his defence in the last three minutes.

However, Tlolane snatched the equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time with a shot that deflected off Clayton Daniels to earn Rise and Shine a point.
