Trophy headache for PSL

Trophy headache for PSL

Posted: 5 March 2013 Time: 02:35 pm

The PSL have been handed a massive headache for Saturday as they try to work out whether to send the Absa Premiership trophy down to Cape Town or keep it in Gauteng.

Following a gripping penultimate round of Premiership fixtures on Wednesday night, SuperSport hold a two-point lead over Orlando Pirates going into last day of the season.   But given Matsatsantsa’s superior goal-differences, should they draw their final match against Santos at the Coetzenburg Stadium, Bucs will need to beat AmaZulu by nine clear goals to claim the title.   Therefore, the only realistic way Ruud Krol’s side can win the title is for SuperSport to lose, as they did against Golden Arrows on Wednesday, and for The Sea Robbers to claim victory against Usuthu.   The PSL are likely to therefore send the trophy to Cape Town, or Stellenbosch to be more exact, and keep a smaller replica at Ellis Park in case results work out in Pirates’ favour.   They cannot, as they did in 2005, have the trophy on standby to fly between cities, given the distance between the two matches. That year the trophy was stationed in Kroonstad, midway between Bloemfontein, where Chiefs eventually beat Celtic to claim the title, and Johannesburg, where Pirates hosted Bush Bucks.   Once the destination of the title was known, the trophy was put onto a helicopter, along with then PSL CEO Trevor Phillips, and flown to Vodacom Park, where Chiefs were victorious.

Its very simple, keep the Cup at Cape Town bcoz its belong to Supersport. Supersport will win or draw and becomes Champions bcoz Santos won't qualify for TOP 8 even they beat Supersport. Pirates have to blame themselves for not winning it by failing to beat Supersport and ajax.Try next time Bucs.

A massive headache for handing out a cup seFoot.
Try being beaten by Santos 3-0, or having a chance to go neck on neck with SS and you fail or just being SS, Bow & Arrows fly from no where to disappoint.
Wonder where Mzukisi ChickMAKANETE is today :(

where is the issue here? if pirates win and supersport draw and lose, pirates will be crowned champions.
currently supersport is leading pirates by 2 points not 3 hence pirates still has a realistic chance should then win and supersport draw or lose.

up the bucs. i was very upset yesterday but i still feel pirates has a chance. santos can do the job for us. i hope we won't mess up this time around.

As a die hard, i say let SSU collect it on their way to CT. I'm accepting defeat like a man, there is nothing we can do from now on, we messed up against celtic, ssu and last nite. a draw is no different from a loss!!!

I agree with all of you guys who wanna see Pirates win this one but let me tell you what's gonna happen on Sunday, Pirartes is going to win yes but they wont lift the cup. wanna know why, cos it helps to have a strike force that does the job mid-season.
supersport is going to draw and all Pirates need to do is win by a 10 goal margin. let's see them do tat without rousing the suspicion from SAFA ha ha ha.......

Pirates 10 - Amazulu 0
Supersport 1 - Santos 1

and oh ... Chiefs 0 - P stars 4
