SA players abroad wrap

A relatively quiet weekend for South Africans playing abroad, as Andile Jali got cracking once more in Belgium while Bongani Zungu got one over compatriot Lebogang Phiri in France.
The 21-year-old made his sixth appearance of the season for Sint-Truiden, his second in succession, coming on for the last 10 minutes in a 3-1 loss to Waasland-Beveren, leaving them seventh in the Belgian top-flight standings.
Cele started a third game in a row – following his loan from Benfica – for Real SC, who won for the first time in 11 games, securing a 3-1 win over Uniao Madeira. Real are still bottom of the Portuguese Second Division however, three points off 19th-placed Sporting Braga.
After a substitute appearance and a midweek start in Montpellier’s first two league games of 2018, Dolly was once again an unused substitute as his club made it six matches unbeaten in all competitions with a 2-1 victory over Toulouse thanks to Ivory Coast striker Giovanni Sio’s 95th-minute winner. Montpellier are seventh in Ligue 1, just three points behind fifth-placed Nantes.
HAASHIM DOMINGO/THIBANG PHETE
Domingo made way for Phete in the 63rd minute as both were utilised in Vitoria Guimaraes’ 2-1 win over UD Oliveirense, leaving them 15th in the Portuguese Second Division, but just three points above the relegation zone.
Oostende bounced back immediately from their midweek defeat to Genk with a 2-1 win over Kortrijk, with Jali playing the full 90 minutes in his 18th league appearance of the season. The win leaves Oostende 12th on the log after 22 games.
Mahlambi did not feature for a fourth match in succession as Al Ahly beat Misr Lel Makasa 2-1 to open up a four-point lead at the summit of the table, as the South African’s future in Egypt remains in doubt.
Manyama was an unused substitute as Konyaspor drew their first league game of 2018 against Trabzonspor 2-2, as they still sit precariously in the relegation zone, second-from-bottom with 16 points after 18 games.
Mokotjo earned his 15th start of the season as Brentford made it two wins from two, earning a narrow 1-0 away win at Reading, lifting them up to ninth in the Championship standings after 28 games played.
Mothiba made his 19th start for Valenciennes, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with fifth-placed Le Havre. The result leaves his second-tier club 14th on the standings with 26 points after 22 games.
Still no sign of Rantie at Genclerbirligi as the South African looks to force his exit from the club, which currently sits 15th in the Turkish standings.
The South African playmaker made his 15th league appearance for Vitesse, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Heerenveen to leave them seventh in the Eredivisie standings.
Singh was substituted off on the hour mark as Sport Braga’s woes continued as they went down 3-0 to second-placed Academica. Braga are now second-from-bottom in the Portuguese second tier with 20 points from 21 games.
Veldwijk made his 15th appearance for Groningen as they played out a 1-1 draw with WIllen II, leaving them 13th in the Eredivisie after 19 games played.
BONGANI ZUNGU/LEBOGANG PHIRI
Zungu emerged victorious against compatriot Phiri as Amiens and Guingamp clashed in Ligue 1. Zungu played the full 90 minutes, while Phiri did not make it off the bench, as Amiens emerged 3-1 victors, lifting them up to 13th on the log while Guingamp slip down to ninth.
