Bucs salvage a point at Orlando

Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City played to an entertaining 1-1 draw in the Absa Premiership.

They were however up against it, with Buccaneers eager to continue where they left off in their 3-1 triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns last time out.

Justin Shonga got the game’s first effort on goal when he forced George Chigova into an outstretched save in the opening 10 minutes.

Buoyed by the threats of Rodney Ramagalela and Jabulani Maluleke, went ahead through Dominic Chungwa’s first time volley before the 20th minute mark following a poor defensive clearance.

Pirates looked for an early response, and Shonga was through on goal after shrugging a defensive challenge but was once again denied by Chigova.

Meanwhile, Ramagalela was looking to increase their lead with a shot from outside the box which Jackson Mabokgwane held comfortably.

Chungwa looked to secure his brace but Mabokgwane stepped up to the plate again by fisting the effort away from goal.

At this stage, the former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper had his hands full and was called on to make another goal-bound save this time from Walter Musona after the half and hour mark.

Four minutes before the break, Luvuyo Memela drew a point-blank save from Chigova who punched his effort into touch.

Thabiso Kutumela went close on the stroke of half-time but he disappointingly shot way over the bar, with the opposing defence on his back.

After a frustrating first half, Pirates came out in the second half looking to revise the score-line in their favour.

Pirates' struggles in front of goal forced Milutin Sredojevic to throw caution to the wind, with the introduction of Ayanda Nkosi and Lyle Foster.

It paid dividends with the latter stepping up to convert the equaliser after latching on to a loose ball inside the box to earn a share of the spoils.
