Fielies ready to face former employers

Cape Town City defender Taariq Fielies says he’s got nothing to prove against his former club Ajax Cape Town.
Fielies, who spent three seasons at Ikamva with very little game time, has been a revelation for the Citizens this season since making the step up from the National First Division, where he was playing or now defunct Milano United.
The 25-year-old lanky defender says there will be no better feeling than running out onto the pitch to battle his former employers, in front of his home crowd.
“First of all, I would like to thank Ajax for giving me the opportunity to come through the ranks and also giving me my first taste of professional football,” Fielies told KickOff.com.
“It was an amazing journey for me when I started out my career with them and I shall forever be grateful for that. But as we all know my stay wasn’t very long as things didn’t work out for me and I needed to look elsewhere and the rest is history as they say.
“Coming up against them will just be like any other game, you know. I have no point to prove. Yes, I’m excited as any player would be but I don’t feel the need to go out and prove anything. It will be an entertaining match and the vibe will be great,” said Fielies.
“Tarra”, as Fielies is affectionately known, says the recent change in coaching at Ajax, who brought in Muhsin Ertugral to replace the axed Stanley Menzo, is definitely having a positive effect on the Urban Warriors.
“Their confidence is high and they also have a world class coach,” Fielies stated.
“Muhsin sets high standards and demands nothing less than 100 percent. It’s with this in mind that we can expect them to come hard at us, but we are City and we’re always prepared,” Fielies concluded.
