SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler reckons 55 points will be enough to win the league this season given that "everyone is on the up and up".

SuperSport tonight visit modestly-assembled Maritzburg United, who recorded the biggest win of their PSL tenure with a 4-0 trouncing of Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday to rise to mid-table.

Perennial title contenders Matsatsantsa are having a tough time of late as they languish at the lower end of the standings after a 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows on Sunday stretched their winless run to eight games.

"Everybody is on the up and up as we've seen in this league. It is why I think if you finish on 55 points you'll win the league, that is the way I see it," said Tinkler, who saw his star striker Jeremy Brockie join Mamelodi Sundowns this week.

"Maritzburg... a very good team, extremely good team and playing well. But I think we tend to up our game as well when we play against the bigger teams and I know my players will up their game."

Tinkler acknowledges the CAF Confederation Cup finalists' confidence has taken a knock.

"I think maybe that is the anxiety and that is where the nervousness comes from, and a little bit of disbelief from the players. Confidence also doesn't seem to be there," said Tinkler, who is still without injured forward Bradley Grobler.

"Like in the first half against Arrows, the confidence wasn't there. Second half we were much, much better because of the things we needed to work on and sadly we got punished by the mistake we made.

"The fact that we are here [in Durban] the whole week, we need to utilise that to try and rebuild the team's spirit in the squad and self-confidence."

Matsatsantsa beat Maritzburg 3-1 across two legs in the MTN8 earlier in the season, with Brockie bagging an unanswered brace in the return duel.
