Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says new defender Denis Weidlich has received his work permit and will be eligible to play against Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday.
Signed from Maritzburg, Weidlich will bring much needed stability to a Wits defence that has only kept five clean sheets this season.
Initially Weidlich had signed a pre-contract with the Clever Boys, but Bokang Thlone's move to Maritzburg United allowed the German defender to make a switch in the January transfer window.
Captain Thulani Hlatshwayo and Buhle Mkhwanazi have been the first choice central defensive pairing, but injuries have made it difficult for Hunt to have a consistent backline.
"We've got a bit of back-up now, which is important in your positions. Denis will be available for Friday. That's a big plus for us," said Hunt.
"Those two [Hlatshwayo and Mkhwanazi] have missed a lot of games this season with various reasons. We need consistency, so at least we have somebody now who can help us in that position. It's important for us."
Hunt did not want to discuss the talk of Orlando Pirates utility player Abbubaker Mobara joining Wits and Xola Mlambo going the other direction in a swap deal.
"Hopefully something will happen. I am not involved. My chairman and CEO are involved, so we will see what happens," said Hunt.
