Tapelo Nyongo: AmaZulu's players will sort this out

Posted: 16 January 2018 Time: 08:29

AmaZulu captain Tapelo Nyongo has assured the club's fans the team will ease their relegation fears.

Usuthu have struggled since buying the now-defunct Thanda Royal Zulu's topflight status in the off-season, with the Durban outfit hovering above the drop zone on goal difference midway through the campaign.

Cavin Johnson's side are winless in their last eight games in all competitions, while they suffered a third straight league defeat with the 2-0 loss at Baroka on Sunday.

Johnson's team, however, have played two fewer matches than 11 of the 18 Absa Premiership teams, and will hope they can turn their season around when they next host SuperSport United at King Zwelithini Stadium this Saturday (20h15).

“We let ourselves down, especially management, our supporters and the coach. I myself, as the captain, take full responsibility,” Nyongo told the club's website following the defeat to Bakgaga.

“I can assure all the AmaZulu family that we will sort this out as players,” added the 22-year-old defender, who is suspended for the visit of SuperSport after earning a fourth caution.

Johnson admitted his men didn't come to the party against Baroka.

“It was not a good game. I do not think AmaZulu came to the party today. We did not play the way we were supposed to play,” Johnson said.

“My players made some bad technical errors. In the first half there were a couple of moments when we were chasing the game and we managed to keep possession, and we looked little bit better.

“I thought we would come back in the second half being a lot more composed on the ball, and showing more effort, and push for the equalising goal.

“I think the second half was very poor for my team. We will go back and try to fix it. We need to get a win under our belt in order to get our confidence back.”
