Free State Stars will not be signing Guinea-Bissau forward Amido Balde if fitness tests prove that he will not be available to play right away.
The well-travelled striker started training with Stars today but arrives having not played any football this season.
“Based on what I saw of him today he is not fit at all,” says Luc Eymael, the Stars coach.
Balde spent the second half of last season on loan at Tondela from Maritimo – both Portuguese clubs.
“The truth is that I need a player for now and not two months from now. So I need to see how he reacts to the fitness tests tomorrow and the day after. We don’t have the time for him to be ready in two months because we are not in pre-season.
“Remember, we are already playing games every week and so if it is a case of him being ready two months from I am sorry to say that it won’t work. I can deal with waiting for 10 days for his work permit but not two months for him to gain his fitness. He has not signed with us,” explains Eymael.
Standing at 1,93m Balde (26) has played at various clubs in Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Scotland, Israel, France and Angola.
