Chilli Boys hold the Clever Boys

Bidvest Wits were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United in an Absa Premiership clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams started slowly in the opening 10 minutes as the heat may have caused them to go with a cautious approach early on.

Vincent Pule sent the Clever Boys ahead in the 21st minute following sustained pressure from the visitors, 0-1.

Gavin Hunt's charges started to sit deep in their own half after half-an-hour as the Chilli Boys pushed for the equaliser.

In the 37th minute, Lehlohonolo Majoro was sent through on goal but his strike could not find the target.

Sifiso Myeni did well to beat his marker on the right wing and deliver a cross to Majoro, whose header was tipped over the bar by Daniel Akpeyi just before the break.

Linda Mntambo nearly equalised 12 minutes into the second half with a left-footed curling strike from just inside the box but Darren Keet was equal to the task.

Kristopher Bergman equalised for Teboho Moloi's troops with 10 minutes left on the clock as their pressure on the opposition paid off.

Five minutes later, Myeni almost made it 2-1 to the Clever Boys when he struck the woodwork with an effort from outside of the box.

The two sides scrambled for the winner in the last five minutes but it was not to be as they had to settle for the share of spoils.
