High-flying Stars down City

Free State Stars went ahead of Cape Town City into second spot following their 1-0 victory in the Absa Premiership.
The game got off on a lively note, with the visitors applying the early pressure through Lyle Lakay, Sibusiso Masina and Edmilson Dove.
Sinethemba Jantjie proved troublesome early on, forcing City to put on a stern defensive display to prevent him and compatriot Harris Tchilimbou from breaking through.
It proved to be a typical midfield battle, with both sides forced to play on the wings, and Jantjie fluffed a golden opportunity after 25 minutes following a delivery from Patrick Phungwayo.
The Citizens found it hard to break-through the Stars defence and were at best reduced to shots from range, with Victor Obinna coming close 10 minutes before half time.
Luc Eymael’s charges were looking ominous with their slow builds from the back, but lacked the finishing touch the duration of the first period.
They finally took the lead through the head off Tchilimbou on the stroke of half time following slack defending by the Capetonians.
Ea Lla Koto continued their dominance in the second half, and were unfortunate not to go ahead after wasteful attempts in front of goal.
A frustrated City continued to break down a resolute defence that was hell-bent on given anything away in front of goal.
Jantjie continued with his menacing act, but was let done by a lack of support from his teammates in the final third.
With less goal-mouth action, Ea Lla Koto rallied on for the maximum points to move ahead of City in second place.
