Maritzburg thump Celtic

Maritzburg United put daylight between themselves and Bloemfontein Celtic with a 4-0 hammering in an Absa Premiership clash.
The Team of Choice looked to open the scoring early on after Deolin Mekoa flipped in a cross, but it failed to make its way into the box.
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyanda Xulu, who got the winner in their previous encounter, came close with a header but Patrick Tignyemb moved swiftly across his goal-line to make the save.
Celtic were going casually about their business, spraying shots passes to try and infiltrate the hosts, but in the end were only reduced to shots from range particularly from Deon Hotto.
Evans Rusike then got hold of a loose ball on the edge of the box after Mekoa’s miscue shot, but the former fired way of the intended target.
The Zimbabwean continued with his menacing act after spotting Tignyemb off his line, he went for the audacious chip which failed to find the back of the net.
The breakthrough finally came for Fadlu Davids men six minutes before the break when an unlikely source in Pogiso Sanoka profited with a diving header following Bevan Fransman’s flick back.
The Telkom Knockout finalists as expected, looked for a quick response and Victor Letsoalo tried his luck with a shot from outside the box which Richard Ofori comfortably parried.
On the other hand, United were looking for a two-goal lead and were nearly rewarded, but Tignyemb was up to the task to deny Siphelele Ndlovu’s cross-cum shot as they went into the break leading.
Veselin Jelusic wasted no time for a way back into the game with the game’s first change in Ruggert Nyundu for Neo Maema.
That brought little effect as Mohau Mokate tapped in the second for the KZN side following a string of delightful short passes a minute after the interval.
Belgian Andrea Fileccia wasted no time getting on the scoring act straight after his introduction with a toe-poke finish after 75 minutes.
Rusike spurned yet another chance to get on the scoreboard when he blasted way of goal in a rush of blood to the head effort.
He finally got on the score-sheet minutes before full time with a first-time shot inside the box following a corner kick.
The win moves the home side to fourth spot ahead of Kaizer Chiefs, who welcome Polokwane City on Saturday evening.
