Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral, despite leaving the door open for frozen midfielder Travis Graham, held nothing back in laughing off the player’s overseas hopes.
The former Urban Warriors skipper has not featured for the Cape outfit this season after refusing a contract extension in an attempt to force an exit, and has been training with the MultiChoice Diski Challenge team since the start of the season.
Club boss Ari Efstathiou told KickOff.com that the ball was still in Graham’s court, should he want to smoke a peace pipe and try his luck under new coach Ertugral, who echoed the same sentiments when asked about the former captain.
“I spoke to the chairman about him, and it’s up to him,” the Turk said. “I had a chat to him, and I think he’s a very good player, but it’s up to him – he must come and speak to the chairman, and he must show he wants to play. We are not people that will send him away – we told him that yesterday. I told him to come talk to the people that have been there for him.”
Ertugral did, however, laugh off the player’s ambition of securing a move abroad following his antics.
“What I heard is that he wants to play overseas – but can you explain to me how?” Ertugral asked. “Who is going to take you? From sitting on the stands to going overseas? It’s not that easy to walk in there.
“Who is going to take you there? Where? They are in a dream world … and I say it like it is – some people don’t like it, but that’s how it is. They have no chance. From Mamelodi Sundowns, there’s five or six guys that can make it overseas, because of the way they play and their coach.”
