Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango knows the quality Aubrey Ngoma will bring to the side, but says it’s important that they help him gel with the team.
Ngoma joined Sundowns from Cape Town City in a deal said to be worth R8 million and is currently nursing an injury as he waits to make his debut for the Absa Premiership leaders.
When he is fully fit to play, Ngoma will bring healthy competition on the flanks at Sundowns but there’s also pressure of having to deliver from the word go at the club. That’s where Onyango and company will come in, to help him settle and deal with the pressure from supporters.
“We’ve brought in Aubrey and we have lost [Leonardo] Castro. Aubrey needs to adapt to our style of play and people will expect him to deliver from the word go, which is sometimes difficult if you are joining a new team,” Onyango says.
“We need to help him and we can see how much he can help us. He must fight for his position in the team. He has the quality, but we need to help him gel with the team.”
Ngoma recently spoke of how he is eager to play in the CAF Champions League with Sundowns. He also has his eyes firmly set on winning the domestic championship with Pitso Mosimane’s side.
