Ajax Cape Town's Samuel Julies targets debut against Mamelodi Sundowns

Ajax Cape Town recruit Samuel Julies is hoping to make his debut tonight against former employers Mamelodi Sundowns at Cape Town Stadium (19h30).

Ajax yesterday announced the signing of Julies from Chippa United as part of a swap deal involving fellow midfielder Bantu Mzwakali.

The School of Excellence graduate came through the ranks at Sundowns before moving to Chippa ahead of the current campaign due to limited game-time.

The 26-year-old scored three goals in eight outings for the Chilli Boys, memorably netting a winner against Downs in the Telkom Knockout in October last year.

Julies aims to take his career to the next level at Ikamva under coach Muhsin Ertugral.

“I was at Sundowns for close to 10 years, so yes, I am excited to play against them if the opportunity presents itself. Maybe I can score against them again. It is just a nice feeling being here [Ajax],” Julies told Ajax's website.

“My brother mentioned it to me [that Ajax were interested], my goal is now to grasp as much knowledge as possible from the coach. He is a very experienced coach. I will do my best to help the team gain points and move up the table.

“I will just keep working hard and I will put all my energy towards growing as a player here at Ikamva.”

The Kimberley-born attacker said he was prepared for the move.

“I am grateful to finally be an Ajax Cape Town player and I am grateful to the management for the way they handled the situation. It is a great club and I am looking forward to doing my best here.”

“Things happen so quickly so as a professional you have to be prepared at all times. I was always prepared for this, I am just hoping that everything will fall into place and that I can make my debut as soon as possible. I am just glad everything has worked out.”
