Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says Lorenzo Gordinho can always come back in future

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says the beauty of Lorenzo Gordinho’s move to Bloemfontein Celtic is that he can return to Amakhosi "at any time".
Komphela rates Gordinho highly, but had to let the defender go in a deal which saw Celtic winger Kabelo Mahlasela join Amakhosi on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The 23-year-old Gordinho was a regular alongside Mulomowandau Mathoho in Komphela’s first two seasons at the helm, but found himself on the bench when youngster Siyabonga Ngezana broke into the starting line-up and Daniel Cardoso started performing well.
Gordinho, who made his debut for Celtic in their 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows on Sunday, is on a year-long loan deal with Phunya Sele Sele after making just seven appearances in all competitions in the first half of the season for Amakhosi.
After Chiefs’ goalless draw with SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, Komphela explained why Gordinho was allowed to go out on loan.
“I am sitting on six central defenders, six. Gordinho is a hell of a good centre-back and the beauty of it that he is there on loan and he can come back at any time,” he told the media after the game.
“But it was part of the deal to get Mahlasela in. And you still have Teenage [Hadebe]. What do you say about Teenage? Cardoso is having a hell of a game. [There is] Siya Ngezana and our national centre back 'Tower' [Mathoho] is with us there on the bench and Rama [Mphahlele]. You still have [Kgotso] Moleko as well and you can see what 'Tight' [Joseph Molongoane] did. One would say why play Tight right-back when Moleko is there. Tight had been doing tremendously well. You need to find a way to be sensible and rational in your actions.
“From a defensive point of view we are okay. You’d love to play all your centre-backs, but you can play two or three.”
Fourth-placed Chiefs are next in action when they take on Polokwane City at FNB Stadium this Saturday (20h15).
