Royal Eagles coach Kosta Papic has confirmed the club have re-signed controversial midfielder Masibusane Zongo.
Zongo was kitted in Eagles colours during the team's 4-3 loss to Mbombela United in National First Division action at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
“He has a contract with the club and he’s at the club. He has been signed with the club,” Papic told KickOff.com.
Zongo, who was recently linked with a move to Botswana Premier League side Mochudi Centre Chiefs, previously had a short stint with Eagles in 2016 after being sacked by Platinum Stars in April of that year.
Papic warned the 27-year-old against showboating in 2016/17 and failed to field him before leaving the club. Asked what would change this time, the Serbian skirted the issue.
“What I’m hoping next time in the next match [a trip to Mthatha Bucks this Saturday] will work for us in a different way, better than what is what today.”
Zongo was released from police custody in the Western Cape late last year after being arrested in connection with a rape case. It is understood the allegations date back to February 2013 when Zongo was on the books of Chippa United.
Zongo's career has been dogged by off-field issues, having failed to match expectations at a number of teams, including SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits.
