Bloemfontein Celtic returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Celtic, who were held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United in their last encounter, made a promising start with a few shots on goal.
They gave a debut to Lorenzo Gordinho, who arrived on-loan from Kaizer Chiefs this week as part of the deal that took Kabelo Mahlasela in the other direction.
Abafana Besthende came into the game on an 11-game winless run in all competitions, with their last win coming away on September 20 against Platinum Stars.
Six minutes into the game, Deon Hotto collided with Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingipile Gumede after he connected with a through ball from Neo Maema.
They continued to probe for the opener with shots from range by Mabena, Lucky Baloyi and Tshepo Rikhotso but they all failed to hit the target.
Moments after the water break, Siwelele finally broke the deadlock through the boot of Victor Letsoalo in the 29th minute when he tapped in Rikhotso’s lay-off.
The former Baroka FC striker failed to double his tally when was presented with a free header from a cross by Hotto, which he headed wide four minutes before the break.
Hotto would turn finisher when he played a one-two combination with Lantshene Phalane before slotting the ball under the body of Gumede for a 2-0 half time lead.
The home side continued from they left off in the second half, as they nearly tripled their tally, but Maema shot wide of goal two minutes from the break.
Arrows were looking to reduce the deficit, and Patrick Tignyemb was forced into a double save from first stopping Gordinho from scoring an own-goal, and then Knox Mutizwa on the follow up.
He could do little though to stop substitute from Thomas Chideu from getting on the score-sheet following a rebound off the post moments later.
Celtic tried to restore their two goal deficit but were let down by poor finishing from Hotto and Letsoalo in particular.
It didn’t bother them any further as they stood firm to collect all the points and join Orlando Pirates on 23 points in sixth spot
