Onyango's got his eyes on the prize

Goalkeeper Denis Onyango wants Mamelodi Sundowns to be ruthless in their quest to lift an unprecedented eighth Premiership title this season.
Sundowns have a four-point lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table going into the second half of the season and the Ugandan international is determined to see the gap being stretched in the coming weeks.
Pitso Mosimane’s men kick off 2018 with a clash against Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (15h30), looking to bounce back after they were beaten 1-0 by Cape Town City in their last game in December.
Sundowns have not won a domestic title since lifting the league trophy in 2015/2016 and now have a good chance to snatch it away from struggling defending champions Bidvest Wits.
Sundowns will also have the Champions League to take part in from March, but the early stages of the competition will not be too demanding, which means their domestic title challenge is unlikely to be affected.
“We did not win anything last season besides the [CAF] Super Cup and Champions League. We are looking at this season to win the league,” Onyango tells KickOff.com.
“We’ve got a four-point lead at the top and we must stretch it and make it difficult for other teams to catch up. We just need to continue working hard and getting the required results. We need to win [a domestic trophy] because we missed out on the Telkom Knockout and MTN8.”
He adds: “We will play in the Champions League, but that’s about two or three games before our domestic season closes.”
City beat Sundowns 2-1 in the first half of the season at Loftus Stadium and are capable of upsetting the former African champions in Polokwane tomorrow afternoon.
“They took their chances when we played them the last time. We know what kind of game we will face because we lost to them in the first round.
“We want to get back to winning ways because we did not have the best of finishes in our last match against Cape Town City. It was disappointing, but we have been preparing well for our next game. We are trying to rectify our errors so that we start the year off on a good note.”
