Vuyo Mere: Platinum Stars can't repeat mistakes

Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere says Dikwena's players are eager to do away with impediments that stalled their progress in the first half of the Absa Premiership campaign.
“We have to do introspection and see what we can do this time around. We know what didn’t work for us in the first round. We can’t keep on doing the same mistakes. We need to avoid things that let us down,” said Mere.
“Second round is the final hurdle to the league. We don’t have much time. Every point is going to be important. The first three to four games, we can’t get less than nine points. We have to keep up with our top eight objective.”
The Stars skipper and his teammates have been toiling for days in preparation for their first clash of this year against Cape Town City, whom they host at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace this coming Saturday night. Mere says Roger De Sa’s men have to work hard since they are still battling relegation.
“Hopefully the players are fresh and hungrier to do well for the team. We are preparing for Cape Town City, hopefully the players came back in the right frame of mind. We know what is at stake. We are still not out of it. We want to do well and try finish in the top eight. That’s the goal for now,” said Mere, whose side is 14th with 15 points on the Absa Premiership table.
Mere knows that it won’t be a walk in the park against Benni McCarthy’s men.
“City are a good side with a good coach in Benni. We have to give them the respect they deserve. We have to make sure that they feel that they are playing Platinum Stars because we are playing at home. They have their ups and downs. They lost couple of players that were influential in the first round. Hopefully we will benefit from that.
“We have to work hard and get the points. We want the supporters to come and rally behind us. It’s always nice when you play and there’s someone rallying behind you,” said the versatile veteran.
Kick-off is at 20h15.
