Mauricio Pochettino hails Fernando Llorente after marking first Premier League start this term with a goal

Posted: 3 January 2018 Time: 09:10

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has praised Fernando Llorente for making the most of his first Premier League start of the season after bagging a goal in the win over Swansea City.

The Spaniard made a happy return to the Swans as he opened the scoring for Spurs against his former club, albeit in controversial circumstances after heading home from an off-side position.

However, the goal would stand as the north London club went on to clinch a 2-0 victory, with Llorente earning plenty of praise from his manager.

"I think it was difficult for the team and for him to play in these conditions," Pochettino told Sky Sports after the match.

"I am happy for him to help the team to achieve three points. When a new player arrives in a team where the dynamic is so clear always it is a struggle to find the possibility to play.

"He's very professional and I'm so happy that he helped us achieve what the team wanted."
