Ragnar Klavan has welcomed the added competition for places following Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool.
Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender after joining the Reds from Southampton for £75m, having agreed a pre-deal before making the move official on New Year’s Day.
And while the Dutchman’s arrival means Klavan’s spot in the back-line is under threat, the 32-year-old - who scored the winner for Liverpool against Burnley on Monday - has welcomed the increased competition.
"He [Van Dijk] is a good addition to our team. It is like it is for everyone: there is competition and competition is good for all places," said Klavan.
Klavan became the first Estonian to score in the Premier League after his 94th-minute winner against the Clarets, but said he prefers to fly under the radar and is not a fan of the limelight.
He said: "It was good. We kept on fighting and got three points.
"Those were three really important points but I'm not really one who wants to shine in the light.
"It was a good moment for me and for the team to get the three points, which is what we came here for, and that's it for me."
