Cristiano Ronaldo admits 2017 was “an incredible year” for him personally and says he is grateful to be blessed with such talent.

Ronaldo spearheaded Real Madrid to a UEFA Champions League and La Liga double last year while also clinching a record-equalling fifth Ballon d’Or title, as well as another Best FIFA Men’s Player award.

And, speaking in the New Year, the Portugal international - who will now be setting his sights on the World Cup in Russia - admits he is delighted to have achieved such success throughout his career.

“2017 was an incredible year on so many levels,” the Portuguese told AS.

“It’s a tremendous feeling to look back and see what I’ve achieved, given I started out by kicking a ball in the streets of Madeira.

“My talent was a blessing and I’ve worked extremely hard to get the best out of it, but I wouldn’t have achieved it without the help of so many people professionally.

“I want to dedicate this moment to my family, who have always been there during the good times and bad times, as well as my friends, without forgetting those who believed in me when I was just a kid full of dreams, my Coaches and teammates for club and country.

“Almost 300m followers on social media? A very special thanks goes to them for their support and inspiration so that I can keep working hard and making the most of every challenge I face.”
