Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila coach Sello Chokoe has hailed the impact of veteran midfielder David Mathebula after the side’s impressive showing in the first half of the National First Division season.
Mathebula joined TTM after a move to Baroka FC fell through at the start of the season and Chokoe has been impressed with how the 34-year-old has adapted to life in the second tier.
“He came in after game number seven and he has been very helpful with his experience. He has adapted well to the NFD. He has done so much and we are hoping for more from him [in the second half of the season],” Chokoe tells KickOff.com.
TTM, who bought the status of Milano United, are in eighth place on 20 points, 10 behind leaders Highlands Park. Chokoe's target was to be in the top five after 15 matches.
“It has not been easy. We had to get a team together. We had to move the team from Cape Town and some players did not want to come to Limpopo.
“We got quite a few players, so under the circumstances we are doing well. We are not where we want to be, but we can work harder and get more points. We were looking to be in the top five halfway through the season, but we are not far from there. We can’t complain, we just have to soldier on.”
Chokoe believes they have a chance of winning promotion this season, but they need to work on getting more wins away from home.
“If we are in the top eight now, then anything is possible come the end of the season. We just have to work harder. We will push for it [promotion].
“We’ve only lost once at home, so we need to keep that up and improve on getting more points away from home.”
TTM take on Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium on Saturday (15h30) as First Division football returns after the recess.
