Kaizer waiting for Komphela to deliver

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung admits coach Steve Komphela is yet to match expectations in his third season at Naturena but has faith the team is heading in the right direction.
Komphela is still looking for his first major trophy with Amakhosi, who trail Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by six points having played an extra match midway through the campaign.
Motaung says the Soweto giants have not given up on winning the league and the Nedbank Cup this season.
"It has been a difficult journey in 2017. We were hoping that with coach Steve Komphela now in his third season that more positive results would be forthcoming, but that hasn’t happened as yet," Motaung told his club's website.
"We have now gone 2.5 years without winning a trophy and that’s disappointing. But we won’t throw in the towel. There are no shortcuts and the margins between the different teams are small, but there is still a lot to play for – the Absa Premiership and the Nedbank Cup.
"I do believe, however, that we can look forward to a better future and I am confident that we are on the right track. This optimism also has to do with the changes we want to implement in the yew year."
Meanwhile, Motaung is confident new signing Leonardo Castro will add value upfront for the Glamour Boys.
Chiefs signed the Colombian striker just before the new year from Sundowns.
"Meanwhile, some of the older guys, who have done tremendously well for Kaizer Chiefs in recent years, are slowing down and we need replacements for them over a period of time," said Motaung.
"An example is the signing of the Colombian Leonardo Castro on the brink of 2018. He’s a good acquisition and the striker will make a significant impact on our attacking department, where we haven’t done so well. Scoring goals, however, is not only preserved for strikers in modern football."
Amakhosi, with 22 points from 15 games, will return to action against SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday (18h00).
