KickOff.com has been informed that Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic was in the dark over the signings of Chippa United defenders Diamond Thopola and Phetso Maphanga.
According to a source, 'Micho' wants attacking players given Bucs' well documented scoring problems. Thamsanqa Gabuza and Thabo Qalinge are the club's joint-top scorers this season with three goals apiece.
However, the Soweto giants, who have ample options at the back, recently opted to bring in Thopola and Maphanga as part of a swap deal involving playmaker Thabo Rakhale.
“I can tell you confidently that coach Milutin Sredojevic didn’t need Thopola and Maphanga. He didn’t need those kind of players because they are defenders and he wanted attacking players,” a source tells KickOff.com.
Pirates administration officer Floyd Mbele says he was unaware of claims that Micho was not informed of their latest transfer dealings.
“I don’t know where you get that story from [that the coach was not informed],” Mbele tells this website.
“What I’m telling you the team have signed, like we confirmed, two new players to reinforce the team going forward and that is all I’m prepared to say.”
Micho's predecessor at Mayfair Kjell Joneveret complained of interference from management following his dismissal at the end of last season.
