Cape Town City midfielder Teko Modise explains thick skin

Posted: 28 December 2017 Time: 19:00

Veteran playmaker Teko Modise has explained why his critics can't get him down.

The 35-year-old has endured his fair share of harsh appraisals over the years despite enjoying much individual and team success in his career.

Modise says he is first to know when he needs to up his game.

"I think what helps me is I am my own biggest critic," Modise tells KickOff.com.

"Before you criticise, trust me, I’ve already said that 10 000 times to myself.

"Whatever you say doesn’t hurt me or whatever the case might be because I know if I play bad I’m the first one to realise it.

"Every time I play, I want to play well, I always want to be a better teammate. But not every time things work out that way," concludes the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder.

Modise will look to add to his 13 starts in all competitions for City when they resume their campaign against Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on January 6.

The former Bafana Bafana star, who played at the FIFA World Cup and Confederations Cup, joined the Citizens in July after a six-and-a-half year stay with Mamelodi Sundowns.
