Tottenham striker Harry Kane proud to break Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi duopoly

Posted: 27 December 2017 Time: 12:16

Tottenham striker Harry Kane admits he is extremely proud to be amongst such prestigious company as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after finishing 2017 as Europe’s top scorer.

The England international ended the year with 56 goals to his name for club and country, becoming the first player other than Ronaldo or Messi to do so since 2009.

Kane also broke Alan Shearer’s domestic record for most Premier League goals in a year, having banged home 39 in the top flight in 2017, and the forward admits he is honoured to be amongst some of football’s biggest names.

“I’m very proud of it. Messi and Ronaldo have dominated football for so long, they’re two of the world’s greatest players ever,” Kane told Sky Sports.

“To even be compared to them, to be up there with those sort of stats is a great feeling. All I can do is use that as confidence going into the new year.”
