There were three South Africans involved in Boxing Day action as the busy football schedule in the United Kingdom continued the day after Christmas.
In the English Championship, Bafana Bafana international Kamohelo Mokotjo was able to celebrate a second victory in succession with his Brentford teammates, as he came off the bench for his 16th league appearance of the season in his side's 2-1 victory over Aston Villa. The three points moves his club up to 12th in the standings with 34 points after 24 games played.
In League One, it was not a joyous Christmas for Pretoria-born defender Kgosietsile Ntlhe, who earned his seventh start for Rochdale in their 2-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers. Rochdale are well and truly in the relegation scrap, sitting second-from-bottom with 22 points from 23 games.
Elsewhere in the Scottish Championship, South Africa’s Keaghan Jacobs made his 11th appearance of the season as Livingston got the better of eighth-placed Dumbarton 4-1. Livingston are third on the log table, nine points behind leaders St Mirren with a game in hand.
In Turkey, Tokelo Rantie was again absent from the Genclerbirligi squad in their first-leg 1-0 victory over Bursaspor in the Turkish Cup. Compatriot Lebogang Manyama will hope for more game-time in the Cup as his Konyaspor side line up against Trabzonspor in their Last 16 first leg clash tonight.
