Isibaya actor staging football tournament

Posted: 23 December 2017 Time: 08:00

Isibaya actor Nhlanhla Mdlalose will host his second football tournament at the KwamZimela Sport Grounds ín KwaMaqanda, KwaZulu-Natal from December 24-26.

Mdlalose, who portrays Bongani in the popular soapie, has invited cast members and the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi, Thamsanqa Mkhize, Ayanda Gcaba, Siyanda Zwane, Kagisho Dikgacoi and Sibusiso 'Rhee' Zuma to be part of the festivities, having teamed up with Thamsanqa Gabuza and Siyabonga Nkosi amongst others last year.

SuperSport TV will also provide coverage of the community event.

"As you know Nhlanhla Mdlalose is not the first time being premiered this year but it is the second time. My aim of it is to see young footballers get further football education by playing in the PSL in their future, because we have a long-term vision," Mdlalose tells KickOff.com.

"We are giving back to the community. This tournament is organised by the NPY foundation. Previously we started this with gospel and we had people like Hlengiwe Mhlaba, the late Sfiso Ncwane in January of each and every year before the schools open, before people return to work.

"However, we decided to move to sport because we saw the youth mingling with drugs. I come from Ladysmith so that touched me to see something like that ravaging my community. I then said let's have it as a football tournament in December so the youth can participate and be at the stadium instead of being on the streets.

"On the last day of the tournament there'll be DJs and some of the actors and actresses from Isibaya. So I want to give back to my community in any way I can.

"Lastly, it is very important that I thank all the sponsors for ensuring that this event will be a success because there's more to come from all of us."

Sponsors of the tournament include: Mabala Noise, KZN Sport and Recreation Department, SuperSport TV, Uitval Built It, SAFA, Laliga, Abi Coca Cola, Vodacom, Nqubeko FM, Gree Air Conditioner, Ladysmith Pick n Pay.
