Bucs eyeing Wits defensive core

Word reaching KickOff.com is that Orlando Pirates are set to make a move for Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi in the January transfer window.

The Clever Boys are in a battle to hold onto their established central defensive pairing, with Mkhwanazi now joining skipper Thulani Hlatshwayo on the wanted list of the Buccaneers.

According to a source, Pirates are ready to make a formidable approach to the Milpark-based outfit as they look to land at least one of Wits’ stars in the mid-season window.

However, Wits CEO Jose Ferreira denies any knowledge of interest in Mkhwanazi and insisted that his key duo will not be going anywhere.

“Ooh, now that’s news to me, hey. The ‘Tyson’ [Hlatshwayo] one isn’t, but this one is,” Ferreira tells this website.

“They [Pirates] can come. Nobody has come to me; nobody will come to me. The players aren’t for sale.”

It has also been said that Wits have tabled new deals to ward off any interest in their prized assets, despite their current contracts both running up to June 2019, but Ferreira has refuted this.
