SuperSport United captain Dean Furman is hoping to end the year on a high against Bloemfontein Celtic, and welcomes the opportunity to recuperate over the festive break.
Matsatsantsa close the year with a visit to Phunya Sele Sele this evening, as they continue playing catch-up in the Absa Premiership.
Currently down in 11th place on the standings, Furman feels their wastefulness in front of goal is what has cost them, having won just one of their last five league outings.
“Unfortunately, results have not been going our way recently. As a team we have not been finishing our chances and we have been getting punished at the other end,” the skipper told his club’s website.
“This is something we will be looking to put right in the coming matches. We have a lot of games to catch up on and we have to go on a winning run to get ourselves back to the top end of the league.”
SuperSport and Celtic last met at the same venue two months ago when they played to a 2-2 draw in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals, with the Free State-based outfit advancing via a penalty shootout.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder says they know what to expect at the Dr Molemela Stadium, and expects to take home three points to go into the mid-season recess in a better log position.
“Celtic are a very good side, especially at home. We know them well from the Telkom game a few months ago, so we know what to expect,” he added.
“We will be pushing for a win to end off the year with three points to move us up the table.
“The break will be the perfect opportunity to rest and recover from a very tough year. We will be looking to come back feeling refreshed and ready for the second half of the season.”
