Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Muller has hailed Jupp Heynckes’ ability to “unite” Bayern Munich after a rocky start to the campaign which resulted in Carlo Ancelotti’s sacking.
The Bundesliga giants made the decision to relieve Ancelotti of his duties towards the end of September and brought Heynckes out of retirement to steer the team until the end of the current season.
And, under the 72-year-old, the Bavarian giants have lost only one of their last 16 matches in all competitions, a run which includes their 3-1 Champions League home victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
"A jolt went through the team. I don't know if Jupp Heynckes performed magic, but with the change of the coach responsibility was pushed onto the team," the Germany international told Goal ahead of tonight’s DFB Cup third-round clash against rivals Borussia Dortmund.
"We made individual mistakes, where even the best tactics in the world would not have helped. Jupp Heynckes managed, with his experience and his instincts, to make sure we were always united.
"We won 1-0 three times in a row without dominating the opponents. So, there is clearly space to improve. In the big games we have to reach our best."
