Monare concedes title defence is over

Bidvest Wits star Thabang Monare says it would be naive to think the club can defend their Premiership title this season amid more pressing concerns of survival.
The Clever Boys won their maiden championship last term but are a shadow of themselves in 2017/18 as they are propping up the table with only two wins in 14 matches.
Monare believes the Christmas break came at the right time for the Gavin Hunt-coached side, who can draw some cheer from their Telkom Knockout final win over Bloemfontein Celtic earlier this month.
"The break is gonna do us good," the former Jomo Cosmos man tells KickOff.com.
"To be honest with you... looking at the position we are in on the log I think it would be naive of us to think we can still defend our league championship.
"I mean for now it's just a matter of getting out of where we are and take it one game at a time. We won't talk about what we wanna do, we just wanna get out of where we are. I wouldn't mention a position right now, we just need to get out of where we are. I mean being in a safe place on the log."
Wits will resume their campaign against fifth-placed Free State Stars at Bidvest Stadium on January 5.
