Haashim Domingo and Thibang Phete were the only two victorious South Africans on the weekend after a match day to forget for most.
Three South Africans were on the field, all of them starting, as Cele’s 11th-placed Benfica II took on bottom-placed Vitoria Guimaraes II, where Phete and Domingo ply their trade. Hosts Guimaraes emerged narrow 1-0 victors, lifting them off the bottom to 19th place on the Portuguese Second Division standings after 17 matches played.

Mahlambi made his sixth appearance – his fourth in a row – for Al Ahly on Friday evening, coming off the bench for the last 10 minutes as the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw at 14th-placed Tanta. The two dropped points means Al Ahly are now still four points behind leaders Ismaily, with two games in hand.
Mahlangu, who has 16 league appearances to his name, will hope to add to that total this evening as seventh-placed Dinamo Bucuresti take on ninth-placed ACS Poli Timisoara, who are eight points behind in the Romanian top-flight.

Ndlovu was not in the squad as Qarabag lost 2-0 in their cup quarter-final second leg encounter against Sumqayit. Having won the first leg 2-1, Qarabag lost 3-2 on aggregate to be dumped out of the tournament in the last eight. Their next fixture will only be in February when the league resumes, as they take on second-placed Qabala, who are six points behind them in the standings.
Ntlhe was an unused substitute as Rochdale drew 0-0 at home to Oxford United, leaving them 21st on the League One table with 21 points after 21 games played.
After picking up a yellow card in their midweek win over Lechia Gdansk, Nunes was missing from the Pogon Szczecin squad as they beat Arka Gdynia 1-0, recording back-to-back wins for the first time since June, and just their fourth win of the season. Szczecin are still however bottom of the Polish standings, two points behind 15th-placed Cracovia Krakow, who also have a game in hand.
Phiri came on for the last 15 minutes as Guingamp drew 0-0 away at 10th-placed Caen, leaving them 12th on the Ligue 1 standings after 18 games.
Still no sign of Rantie in the Genclerbirligi squad as they drew 0-0 with 11th-placed Kasimpasa over the weekend, leaving them 17th on the log with 13 points after 16 games. The South African hasn’t played a league match for his club since October, as his future in Turkey remains in doubt.
