Jody February looking to maintain number one jersey at Ajax Cape Town

Posted: 17 December 2017 Time: 19:00

Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Jody February has no intention of giving up the number one jersey when Brandon Peterson returns from injury.

Peterson started the club's first eight games of the season before damaging his hip in a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on October 21.

February has since manned the posts for the Urban Warriors, with Darren Johnson providing cover on the bench.

"Ja, it's good to be playing again," February tells Kickoff.com.

"It's so unfortunate how it happened with Brandon getting injured. But ja it's good to be playing and obviously I just have to retain the place now because I know once he comes back he will push harder, and I will have another goalkeeper hot on my heels. It's a bit tough but good to keep me on my toes as I will have work to do to keep my place. I think I should just keep my consistency and try my best to get the results, try to continue to keep the clean sheets."

The Urban Warriors managed to hold Premiership champions Bidvest Wits to a goalless draw last week before beating in-form Chippa United 1-0 on Saturday.

February suspects the club's lowly league position may have lit a fire for Stanley Menzo's men.

"I can't say, maybe there's more will to win or the guys are more hungrier as it's not nice to be in that predicament you know. It's time for us to do well as we always do but I think as the times go on we will be better.

"I think it comes with luck as well. I think the performances have always been there. I don't know, maybe we were just unlucky but it's coming along nice now. We get good results and hopefully we can keep it going that way."

He adds: "Obviously he [Menzo] has been playing a big part in us performing well. He doesn't give up on us, he is always willing to help to keep us on our toes."
