Ajax Cape Town defender Roscoe Pietersen insists there’s no extra motivation needed for his side’s showdown against Kaizer Chiefs, as the Cape club looks to end 2017 on a high.
After an inconsistent run the Urban Warriors have built up some steam over their last two encounters in Johannesburg, holding champions Bidvest Wits to a goalless draw before edging Chippa United 1-0 to lift themselves up to 13th on the Absa Premiership log.
“Coming back from our two good results in Joburg obviously lifted the morale of the team,” centre-back Pietersen, who has been used as a holding midfielder of late, tells KickOff.com. “There’s lots of confidence going around now.”
Next up for the Cape club is an away fixture against an inconsistent Amakhosi outfit in Durban, with the Ajax players upbeat ahead of their final fixture of the year.
“Obviously playing against a team like Kaizer Chiefs, there’s self-motivation – we don’t really need any motivation,” Pietersen continues. “We’re actually going into that game with much more confidence than we thought we would have had, and the vibe around the squad is very good.
“We’re all very positive, there’s lots of energy and the guys are looking forward to ending the year on a good note. The year hasn’t been that good for us, but hopefully we end on a good note.”
Kick-off at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday is set for 20h15.
