Teboho Moloi refining Chippa United's 'tiki-taka' approach

Chippa United caretaker coach Teboho Moloi says his team need to learn from Barcelona how to play entertaining football while also getting the ball into the back of the net.

The Chilli Boys have been flying high since the arrival of ‘Tebza’, having suffered just one defeat in 11 Absa Premiership games since mid-September and currently occupy fourth place on the log.

The attractive brand of football they have become synonymous with over the past two seasons has also remained, but Moloi is eager to tweak it to score more goals.

“For me it’s very important to entertain because, if you look at Barcelona they don’t entertain with ‘tsamayas’ and ‘shibobos’ but with the slick passing and movement,” commented Moloi on their continued ‘tiki-taka’ approach.

“But we have another thing that’s extraordinary, which is the skill and talent like tsamayas and shibobos, but we need to do them at the right places at the right times, which is not outside of the tactical instructions that we [coaches] give out.

“But let it be part of that [instructions], and at the end of the day we still need to get the ball in the back of the net – that’s very important.”

Chippa are set to host Polokwane City at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in their final encounter of the year on Saturday, and Moloi is aware getting to 22 points will not be an easy task.

“Coming up against Polokwane will be a difficult game, because they play more or less the same as us,” he added.

“When they travel away they are compact and their coach also, though he doesn’t preach that a point away from home means a lot, you can see that his ideology is getting a draw away and three points at home is very important.

“So, we’ll come up against a very difficult team that is very compact and, if given a chance to they will catch you on the break and punish you.”

Moloi concluded: “So, it’s going to be a very interesting game for us to see how we manage to chalk up the three points. It’s very important that we end the year on 22 points.”
