Maritzburg United have openly expressed interest in the service of an out-of-favour Kaizer Chiefs midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.
The Team of Choice are reportedly keen to bolster their midfield as chairman Farook Kadodia has reiterated interest in Chiefs attacker Keagan Buchanan.
The 25-year-old central midfielder arrived at Naturena on a free transfer from Bloemfontein Celtic at the start of the 2016/17 season, but has been limited to just 10 appearances for the club despite being handed the esteemed number 10 jersey.
Buchanan has started just one game this season – their season-opening 1-1 draw with Celtic, in which he registered an assist, but has sinced managed just 24 minutes, with his last appearance coming against Bidvest Wits in September.
Steve Komphela is seemingly not convinced with the SuperSport United academy graduate as the club have also brought in Bongolethu Jayiya, while the likes of Pule Ekstein, Wiseman Meyiwa and Kgotso Malope have all featured ahead of him.
"He [Buchanan] is a high quality player. If Chiefs give us the right to talk to him we would be happy. He is a player we would like to have at Maritzburg but everything depends on whether Chiefs agree, we'll even take him on loan," Kadodia told Isolezwe.
However, sources close to the player say that no official contact has been made yet, while the decision would rest upon the club if he is to leave.
"Keagan is unaware of a possible move in January. He is continuing to work hard in training and just waiting for his opportunity to play," says the source.
