Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Matlaba says the team deserves a trophy this season with the quality of their football.
Pirates have struggled for goals this campaign but a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu in Soweto on the weekend left them second on the table with 20 points from 14 games - two points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who boast three matches in hand.
Bucs will end 2017 with a trip to Matlaba's former club Free State Stars on Saturday (18h00).
“We are doing well and to be honest the football we are playing we deserve to win a trophy this season, but we have to convert chances,” said Matlaba.
“We missing a lot of chances. If you look back if we could have been converting we should be talking a different story now. But we are not looking down as a team. We are positive, we are not giving up. We still have a game against Free State Stars and we will try do our best.”
Sea Robbers coach Milutin Sredojevic is likewise upbeat on the Soweto giants' prospects.
“Our strategy is working perfectly. The only piece in that strategy is passing the ball to the net that is not working. But we are a work in progress and I am convinced that those chances will be converted soon,” said the Serbian.
