Baroka have been crowned Q-Innovation champions after the first quarter of the Absa Premiership was completed on Saturday.

Bakgaga clinched the prize ahead of SuperSport United, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Cape Town City at the Mbombela Stadium this past weekend.

The Limpopo-based outfit were top of the log with 16 points after their opening eight league games this season, but had to wait for Matsatsantsa and Mamelodi Sundowns to complete their CAF commitments at the time.

Now, with all teams having passed the eight-game mark, Kgoloko Thobejane's side can officially claim the honours as they managed four wins and four draws.

The Brazilians ended second despite picking up five wins, as they suffered three defeats, while SuperSport managed four wins, three draws and a defeat but finished third due to an inferior goal difference.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs picked up 13 and 12 points from their opening fixtures respectively, ending fifth and sixth on the Q1 log.
