Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Diyo Sibisi has explained how his return to professional football came about after falling off the radar.
Sibisi slipped into obscurity when he left Mpumalanga Black Aces four years ago, with his last game for the club coming in a PSL Play-Off match with Chippa United which ended goalless on June 26, 2013.
However, he recently joined NFD outfit Uthongathi FC after impressing for lower league side Ladysmith United in his hometown of Sahlumbe, KwaZulu-Natal.
The forward has played three times for Ronnie Gabriel's side, having made his debut against promotion contenders Highlands Park on November 18.
A slim looking Sibisi looked lively in last weekend's 2-0 victory over neighbours Real Kings, notably providing the assist for Sbusiso Mnguni's second goal at King Zwelithini Stadium as the Cane Cutters of Tongaat snapped a five-match winless streak.
"What influenced me to return to football, I had this remaining wish of playing the next two seasons then after that I'll call it a day," Sibisi tells KickOff.com.
"I had been doing well for my hometown club Ladysmith United in the ABC Motsepe League and many people had been asking me, 'why teams are not signing you because you are still playing good football?'. So that on its own motivated me most and then I told myself that I'll be back in topflight football and now it has happened and I'm back. So I'm extremely happy and many people were also happy to see me.
"With how Uthongathi saw me, my former team Ladysmith United played a friendly match against them before they got promotion to the National First Division. So they had a clue of me and it is how I joined them. They want me to try and help them wherever I can help since they are new in this division.
"Since I'm back the reception I got was and has been overwhelming. Even the players of Real Kings were happy to see me because even them they were asking me where was I because many last saw me at Mpumalanga Black Aces."
Sibisi, who shone at Free State Stars before moving to Sundowns in 2008, has also played for Ajax Cape Town, Maritzburg United and University of Pretoria.
