Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or award

Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the 2017 Ballon d'Or award.

The 32-year-old beat out 30 other superstars including Lionel Messi and Neymar, who finished second and third respectively.

Africa was represented on the list as Senegal's Sadio Mane was ranked 23rd, while Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished 21st in the voting.

Ronaldo has won the accolade for the fifth time in his career, equalling Messi's record.
