KickOff.com can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns have identified Uruguay winger Gaston Sirino as a prime target as they seek to reshuffle their squad in the new year.
Sirino currently plays his club football in the Liga de Futbol Profesional Boliviano (Bolivian Professional Football League) where he turns out for champions Club Bolivar.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane travelled to Bolivia last month to watch the 26-year-old in action for his club in a league match against third-placed Club Jorge Wilstermann.
That game played on November 5 finished 2-2 with Sirino scoring a brace.
Though he operates as a winger he has so far scored 18 goals in all competitions this year for the Bolivian champions – who he joined at the beginning of the year from Chilean club San Luis.
He has also played for Rampla Juniors FC in his homeland, San Felipe in Chile and has the experience of having played in the Copa Sudamericana.
Also being tracked by The Brazilians is Bolivian forward Gilbert Alvarez Vargas, who plays for Club Jorge Wilstermann.
The 25-year-old is the Bolivian Professional Football League’s leading scorer with 15 goals (19 in all competitions) and boasts national team experience.
He was part of the squad for the recent 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and has also previously played his club football in Brazil.
Alvarez stands at 1,85 metres and is known to be an old school number nine who prioritises staying in the box.
In the game that Mosimane watched while in Bolivia between Wilstermann and Club Bolivar – Alvarez played 90 minutes but didn’t score.
Information gathered by this website is that Sundowns are already in negotiations with all the respective parties as they seek to seal the deals before the end of the year.
The Brazilians are set to re-work their list of foreign players in January, with Ricardo Nascimento having returned to Chloorkop after failing to reach a termination agreement with the club.
Nascimento remains under contract with Sundowns but was not registered at the beginning of the season due to injury and because the club had exhausted their foreign quota.
