Okwuosa, Akpeyi in race against time

Chippa United coach Teboho Moloi has provided an injury update ahead of their Absa Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Chilli Boys are sweating over the availability of a number of key players for their encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Akpeyi, who suffered a neck injury in Chippa's goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns a fortnight ago, as well as skipper James Okwuosa, who has been struggling with niggling ankle and thigh complaints, are set for late fitness tests.

However, Moloi is confident the depth in his squad will provide sufficient cover should those men fail to recover in time for Amakhosi's visit.

"It will be late fitness tests for many of our players – James, 'Mahoota' [Katlego Mashego], Paseka [Mako], [Sandile] Zuke," Moloi tells

"Daniel Akpeyi, remember he fell awkwardly, but at least we have Brighton [Mhlongo] there. So if Daniel doesn't come through the fitness test then we have a replacement.

"Ayabulela [Konqobe] was also heavily strapped in our last game, and he played with some pain killers, so we have a little bit of a hospital but it's not something we are overly worried about because we have other players, as you've seen.

"You know, I'm lucky that I have capable and able replacements and we don't have what people would call your 'regulars' in the team, but we have influential players – I can alternate players in various positions."
