Mike Makaab says Siyabonga Nomvethe is the perfect example to you footballers who want lengthy careers

Siyabonga Nomvethe's long-time representative Mike Makaab says the AmaZulu striker is an example to young footballer that want a lengthy career.

Nomvethe, who turns 40 today, burst on to the scene in 1997 with African Warriors and continues to be a force, as evidenced by him extending his PSL scoring record to 120 goals with a strike against Mamelodi Sundowns in October.

Besides amassing 82 Bafana Bafana caps, the former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs man also plied his trade in Italy, Sweden and Denmark, while he was named PSL Footballer of the Season in 2011/12 after hitting 20 goals for Moroka Swallows.

“He makes my business such as it is at the present moment,” Makaab says to of 'Bhele'.

“He’s been the same person, the same human being for the last 20 years since we’ve been together. He’s an incredible role model to all football players.

“He takes care of his body, he takes care of his family. You never read anything bad about Bhele off the field and he has made an emphasis to always do his best as a human being. And he is the most incredible human being.

“I think that’s how professional footballers should try and behave. I think that’s how we should behave by remaining calm under all circumstances and remain respectful at all times.”

Makaab struggled to pick his favourite Bhele memory.

"When he scored for Bafana twice (against Benin at 2002 AFCON), when he scored in the World Cup in 2002, when he scored against Brazil in the Olympics, so many, so many memories,” Makaab says.

"It' just unbelievable for him to still be doing what he’s doing, but I’m not surprised because he’s probably one of the fittest players playing in South Africa.

“Happy birthday Bhele,” he adds.
