Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale back in the infirmary after suffering calf injury recurrence,

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has confirmed Gareth Bale has suffered a recurrence of his calf injury but insists “it is nothing serious”.

The Wales international has been plagued by injury during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu but looked to be back to full fitness after coming off the bench to score twice in the Copa del Rey against Fuenlabrada in midweek.

However, Bale suffered another injury to his calf and sat out training on Friday while he is also set to miss this weekend’s La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao.

Zidane, though, has played down the severity of the setback, saying: "It is nothing serious, it is just a niggle and, as always, we don't want to take any risks.”

The coach continued: ”Gareth's problem is that he is a very strong, very powerful player and he needs to feel right to play.

"As in many previous occasions, it is the calf. It is a tough time for him right now, but we will come through it and all the people around Gareth have to show him a lot of affection until he is better.

"We can't forget he is an important player for us and when he is fit, he is phenomenal. We need to be patient."
