KickOff.com looks at players who could play a key role in the Telkom Knockout final between Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday (18h00).
Wits coach Gavin Hunt has shown faith in the left winger this season, giving him more game-time. He’s played 11 matches in all competitions and his confidence keeps growing. Pule, who created the winner in the quarter-finals against Baroka FC , is not one of the fastest wingers around, but he can whip in some good crosses.
The Egyptian striker has played a massive role in the Telkom Knockout for the Clever Boys, finding the back of the net three times. He bagged a brace in the 4-2 victory over Free State Stars in the last-16 and was on the score sheet when he snatched the only goal of the game against Baroka FC in the last-eight. He’ll be a menace for the Phunya Sele Sele defence.
Keene gives Hunt another option upfront and he’s done well whenever he has been given an opportunity to play in this competition. He has two goals, one of them coming in the 1-0 victory over Kazer Chiefs in the semi-finals. He is the type of striker who fights for every ball that’s whipped into the area, so Celtic defenders need to be ready for a serious battle.
The twinkle-toed winger has been given freedom by coach Veselin Jelusic to express himself on the pitch and he has gladly obliged. Mahlasela, who has previously been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, will give the Wits defenders problem with his skills, pace and ability to get to the byline and deliver crosses into the box.
The promising striker has proven to be Jelusic’s trump card in the competition, scoring twice as a substitute in matches against Platinum Stars and Polokwane City. To show how confident he is at the moment, Mabasa took the winning spot kick in the penalty shootout in the semi-finals against City. He will go into the final determined to find the back of the net again.
The midfielder, who has one goal in the competition, is a box-to-box midfielder that is playing a good game at the moment. He has got a sweet left foot which he uses well for his long-range passes. He'll have an interesting battle in midfield with the likes of Thabang Monare and Xola Mlambo.
