Former Bidvest Wits defender Lovers Mohlala has backed Gavin Hunt to lead the club to their first Telkom Knockout title in 22 years this weekend.
The Clever Boys will be up against Bloemfontein Celtic in the league cup final, which is set to be played at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu at 18h00 on Saturday evening.
Wits have an opportunity to turn their season around, having gotten their maiden league title defence off to a dismal start as they currently sit bottom of the log, with nine points from 11 games.
The Milpark-based outfit last lifted this trophy back in 1995, when it was still known as the Coca-Cola Cup, in which Mohlala earned the player of the tournament award for his exploits with The Students.
Over two decades later, the 41-year-old retired fullback has faith that Hunt is the right man to end the long wait for the club's third league cup crown, and their first in the PSL era.
"Gavin Hunt is a good planner. He's not a coach who only relies on his team, whether they're the best team or not," Mohlala tells KickOff.com ahead of the weekend's clash.
"What I like about him is that he doesn't take things for granted, and I think at the end of the day Wits will be victorious, not because I played for them but because I know how Gavin plans.
"He's been under pressure lately because they're not winning, and I think what's going to happen now is that he needs to make sure he pleases the bosses."
Ultimately, the coach is not the one who goes out on the pitch, and Mohlala feels the team which commits the least amount of errors will be vitorious.
"Football is a game of mistakes. If you're prone to mistakes then you must know you won't win the game on the day," he adds.
"The team that minimises their mistakes will win. I might favour Wits but at the end of the game it might be something else.
"It's also not about experience, but rather how you apply the tactics on the day."
