Former Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama was the star of the show in a Man-of-the-Match display for Konyaspor in their Turkish Cup tie on Wednesday afternoon.
His club was in action against lower-tier side Batman Petrolspor in their fifth-round match-up in the city of Batman, with the 27-year-old making just his second start for his new side.
Manyama played a crucial role in getting his side’s opener on 37 minutes, delivering the pass for teammate Vedat Bora to slot home to put the away side in front.
Manyama then went from provider to scorer 10 minutes into the second stanza as he capitalised on a goalkeeping error to collect the ball and finish into an empty net for his first goal in European football.
The 2016/17 PSL Player of the Season was not done yet, bagging his brace on 65 minutes with a clinical shot past the opposition goalkeeper to give his side a three-goal lead, which they held on to until the final whistle, to earn a crucial first leg away win.
The second leg cup tie will be played on December 12.
Konyaspor, who are 15th in the Turkish league, will hope their cup form spills over to league matters when they take on sixth-placed Bursaspor on Sunday afternoon.
